Dave Brown has been in the outfitting business for more than 30 years, having started his fly fishing and bird hunting guide business in Alberta, Canada. He immigrated to the United States 13 years ago and added Souther Arizona Guided Quail Hunts to his menu. Now he and his wife, Lisa, run Orvis Endorsed Dave Brown Outfitters in two countries and four provinces and states from their home in Patagonia, Arizona.
“The outdoor rec industry brings in $23 billion a year to the state of Arizona – that’s real money,” said Dave.
“Sometimes I think folks don’t understand just how important tourism outdoor recreation is to our economy, but it’s actually one of the top producers in the state.”
Dave and Lisa are excited to be new GOAZ members to increase their impact by adding their voices to those of other outdoor businesses to advocate for the industry and the public lands they rely on. Some of the issues they’re interested in include protecting prime hunting lands from harmful overgrazing, access to public lands, and finding a better balance between resident and non-resident outfitting licensing.
“The state could bring more balance to managing public lands and supporting businesses focused on the outdoors,” Dave continued.
“GOAZ has an opportunity to educate state decision-makers, our clients and the folks we share the land with about how we can do things better.”
